Organized both to facilitate access to the Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail and to advocate for the trail’s responsible development, the Windsor Locks Canal Trail Friends have a stated mission “to provide recreational opportunities” and to “protect the Park’s natural resources while preserving the historical integrity of the canal.” They sponsor events and programs throughout the year dedicated both to historical and environmental education and to habitat enhancement. They also raise funds in support of those goals. The canal trail is home to abundant fauna, and it runs past prime examples of 19th century stonework. It serves as a popular destination for biking, hiking, and fishing in Windsor Locks and in Suffield, in Connecticut.
